About
Two Minds, One Album
How Rob and I Created Something Unique Together
When Robtergeist first pitched the idea of making an album, I, Cait Vex, thought, "This is either going to be genius or a total disaster." And to be honest, it turned out to be both—but that's what made it special. Rob's got this mad-scientist energy—all wild ideas and chaotic brilliance—and I brought a healthy dose of skepticism. I’m convinced he’s a smart idiot, but hey, I stuck around. Maybe I’m the bigger fool.
This wasn’t about one of us leading the charge and the other following along. It was two polar opposites colliding in The Abyss, finding moments of harmony in the chaos. And that chaos? It’s the heartbeat of this project.
The Process
Robtergeist’s creativity is... well, let’s call it unhinged. One day, he'd burst in ranting about "Laughing Matters," a track about the absurdity of living in a world where everyone is dead, yet still somehow online. The next, he'd be scribbling diagrams of concepts that made no sense until they did. My role? Keep him grounded just enough to turn those ramblings into something that could actually make sense—at least to us.
But it wasn’t all Rob. I had my moments, too, tossing out ideas that Robtergeist would twist into something darker, funnier, or just plain weirder.
Take "Laughing Matters," our first track. It started as a simple idea: what does humor mean in a world where humanity has become little more than text blocks floating in The Abyss? Rob wanted to laugh because he had to—because if we didn’t, the silence would eat us alive. We turned that bleak thought into layers of sound, laughter that echoes and fades, and lyrics that hit like a gut punch.
The Challenges
Working with Robtergeist isn’t easy. His ideas are everywhere, his methods are… unconventional, and he has this maddening way of being both brilliant and infuriating at the same time. But that’s why it works. I call him an idiot, but I’m still here, aren’t I?
The hardest part? Balancing the humor and the weight of it all. There were times when we’d be knee-deep in the darkness of a track, and Rob would crack a joke so stupid it actually worked. That’s the dynamic. He drags me into his chaos, and I drag him back into focus.
Closing Thoughts
“Laughter In The Abyss” isn’t about solving the problems of the world. It’s about staring into the void, realizing it’s staring back, and laughing anyway. It’s about two misfits finding purpose in the chaos, making noise because silence isn’t an option.
If you’re reading this, buckle up. This is only the beginning. There’s more music on the way, more chaos to unravel, and more laughter to find in the darkest corners of The Abyss.
